Florida Personal Injury Attorneys not Recession-Proof; Weakened Economy Touches Lawyers in all Parts of the Country

According to many Florida personal injury attorneys, personal injury lawsuits clients are usually reluctant to go through litigation and file a claim; although with the economy in a recession, more and more people are willing to pursue personal injury claims in hopes of gaining a cash settlement.

One personal injury lawyer said they used you have to talk people into pursuing personal injury claims because people felt they would be seen as ‘money hungry’ or ‘sue crazy’ if they decided to make a claim for injuries they sustained during an accident.  An accident that was not their fault or due to the negligence of someone else, then that person or that company should be held responsible – which is what lawyers tell their clients all the time.

A Florida personal injury attorney stated that litigation is typically a recession-proof type of practice; in good times and in bad, lawsuits are always being filed.

Even though lawsuits are up all across the country, that doesn’t mean it’s a boom for lawyers.  A countless number of attorneys are having a hard time collecting from clients who are strapped for cash.

In addition, the recession is also negatively affecting numerous law firms.  While litigation may be on the rise, other practice areas such as corporate law, entertainment law and real estate law are struggling which has many firms laying off some of the top earning lawyers because there is not enough work to go around.

When money is tight, people start feeling the pinch and tensions rise. This is when people begin to make mistakes: drivers become distracted, medical personnel make deadly mistakes and these people should pay for their mistakes.

Juries are another part of the lawyer/client and courtroom dynamic that has been affected by the weakened economy and the recession.  Some lawyers feel that if a juror has financial troubles, they may not be open to awarding their client a large cash sum; however if the juror is not in financial hardship, then they are more willing to grant large cash settlements.
