There are two new Android smart phones on the horizon that were introduced along with the New Year: the Motorola Cliq and the Motorola Droid. Both of these Motorola smart phones, according to various Android development companies, run Google Android OS (operating systems) for mobile devices; the Cliq is a fun, widget-based interfaced phone and the Droid is for the gadget enthusiast who craves a phone that can ‘do it all’ making these two phones polar opposites.
The Motorola Droid is $200 with a two year contract from Verizon and offers a solid feel with a crisp 3.7-inch touch-screen for optimum viewing. This smart phone makes good use of the Android’s 2.0 features; the Droid is a powerful Internet surfing and communications device. Typing is uncomfortable because the keyboard design is flat and shallow, which is probably its biggest flaw. There is, however a slide-out QWERTY keypad with 40-keys for those who can’t live without texting.
Android app developers are developing apps for both phones and continue to add new apps that help people navigate through their lives, save money, find things, people and places in addition to being entertained in the Droid Marketplace where an individual goes to download apps.
The Motorola Cliq is $200 with a two year contract with T-Mobile is more of a sleek model and contains the MotoBlur overlay for Android. It’s not perfect, however, it doesn’t ship with the latest version of Android – it has a later version installed in it – and the camera is disappointing.
The MotoBlur is something that organizes and aggregates social networking data delivered to the cell phone. One of the coolest features of the MotoBlur is its ability to track, through the GPS tracking on board, a stolen phone and remotely wipe it.
Unlike most phones, this sleek little number has both a slide-out keypad and a touch-screen keypad which makes it a slightly heavier version of most smart phones available today.
This phone contains noise cancelling technology and two microphones for optimal clarity for those you are speaking to.
